Mid Blog Life Crisis!

The other day I sat looking at the four year old pictures of my garden. It was astonishing to see the amount of change that has taken place in the character of space available to me in these 4 years. Gardening is perceived to be a relatively slow activity but comparing the older photographs with the recent ones made me wonder if that is really so! The change has been positive and very heartening. Till about 4 years back, when I got this space to myself, I only had my interest, bordering on passion, in gardening, to do something with it. It all started very gradually with information collected from other amateur gardeners in neighborhood, or from plant sellers in various nurseries. But the real impetus came through blogging. When I started my blog, around 3 years back, the garden was in infancy, not very different from the lawns which are there just to add a touch of green to the house. But the ideas and gardens of my fellow bloggers, the desire to show something novel and new in my blog, the pressure to gain knowledge to try and match the standards of bloggers in blogosphere, made my garden a better garden and me a better and more knowledgeable gardener. I continue to be in awe of the way people around the world love and maintain their greens, at the same time I keep getting enriched by the mutual interaction which has been made possible by the internet and blogging. They say that the biggest room in this world is the one for improvement. In that spirit I thought that time was ripe to introduce changes in the way I blog. Like all activities, blogging too becomes a monotonous activity if it continues unchanged for a pretty long period. Over the years there has been a drop in the frequency of postings, and it has not only been me who is suffering from this mid-blogging-life crisis; many of my fellow bloggers too, I find, are finding it hard to keep their posts regular. For me it had become a little hard to keep up with regular postings because of time constraints, shortage of good ideas, or simply because sometimes nothing major happens in life, but that shouldn’t have prevented me from writing frequent small posts. There is always something little but interesting happening around, which could’ve been put in the form of a post. Now I hope that these little mood or monotony related impediments will not stop me from blogging regularly, and a little change in the blog will recreate the interest. Blogging, for me, is too precious an activity to be shelved for want of change or better ideas. I made some cosmetic changes to my blog which I hope will help keep my blogging spirits alive and kicking.

Wow! Your 'cosmetic change' does look good, GT. Very earthy! And I see that you've edited your profile too. Interesting! It's funny how gardening seduces one into thinking everything else is secondary, isn't it? ;D
I did notice the changes in your garden as you've been blogging, GT. It looks so much 'fuller' and more lush now.
Way to go! Here's to more positive changes.

Nice change, GT. I'm new to blogging but I can imagine what you wrote here.
As long as we enjoy the simple joys of nurturing a garden, we'd remain excited to keep sharing those with others...
I've loved your posts, and I think that with these changes you have made to your blog...you are ready to go...all the best!!

Sunita - Not only my garden but my confidence is also a lot fuller after your morale boosting comment. I hope I can continue to make positive changes to remain eligible for such comments.

Urban Green - Thank you so much. Yes dear Urban Green these blogger's blocks are very much real, but the main thing is to keep oneself alive in blogosphere. I love your posts too and it is interaction with bloggers like you that makes blogging such an exciting activity.

I feel the same way; blogging about my garden is a way of sharing my garden with the rest of the world. Putting a posting every week is difficult sometimes, but it helps that we are in tropical climates. Your garden is looking great.

That image change looks wonderful! I've been meaning to have the courage to do something like that myself. Blogging has been a wonderful, life enhancing experience for me too. I think of my regular bloggers almost as friends. I have met a couple of them too and they are just as nice as I thought!

Hi, I've always really enjoyed reading your posts, but can also relate to what you're saying about your enthusiasm for blogging going through the odd crisis. We all suffer from similar blocks. I do. I think the best idea is to give it a break until something in the garden says "hey, blog about me".

I haven't seen your blog before as I wandered into here from Matron's blog, so I can't comment on your cosmic changes, but I do think you've got a lovely blog!

It's 23 years since I was in India, but you have brought back so many memories for me of that trip - thank you so much! :)

The garden most definitely has changed, hasn't it? And the cosmetic change on the blog is nice too... I have, just recently, been going through the doldrums of blogging... sitting here wondering what on earth I would talk about. But, with effort, you can find something...

GT I love your new look ....your header is fabulous! Gardens are a lift to my spirits. I am sooo glad that I gave up my job and came home to a life I enjoy. I know many of us can't do this at a whim but I had had enough of the corporate/business world. I have learnt to live on less and what I thought was important is no longer a need. Yes things do crop up from time to time and sometimes I miss the people contact but I have met many more interesting friends from around the world who share a common love for gardens and gardening. Right now I am going through a rock fever craze where I feel that I must get off my island to visit other islands. I am planning to do that soon for a couple of days. Blogging is a way of visiting countries I will never get to but will have a close up of. It is also a way of meeting up with other bloggers who live nearby in person. I always say go with your heart when you think the time is ripe.

What a beautiful new header you have!!! I have also just posted similar concerns on my little bloggedy-blog! Ha! It can be challenging...but I enjoy reading others blogs so much...sometimes that is all I can do. I suppose blogging is just like life...with ups and downs and exciting times and dull. Hang tight...and MOST DEFINATELY stay in the blogosphere!!! We love you, GT!!!!!

I face similar blogging block too at times. I take that as a sign to take a break. Take a break I did and I came back fresher and filled with more inspiration. :p

Love the change of your garden after 4 years! Keep it up!
