Garden Bloggers Bloom Day Oct 2007

Time is flying! 15th October and it is time for posting one’s blooms, courtesy Carol at Maydreamsgardens. Although October is a wonderful month considering the wonderful cool weather with sunshine at just the right intensity- the blooms in my garden aren’t much different from last month. So here goes my bloom list: Hedychium Summer Poinsettia or Mexican Fire Plant or Euphorbia cyathophora Pink Oleander Gladiolus Dwarf Ixora Crinum Asiaticum Touch me not or Mimosa Pudica Hibiscus Rosa sinensis Lovely Peach coloured Hibiscus Bleeding Heart vine or Clerodendrum thomsoniae This is the flower of a purple bean whose name I don't know, the seeed was planted by my undergardener and he could not recollect the name of the bean. Can anybody help? P.S.-The bean was later identified by Annie in Austin as the Velvet bean or Mucuna Pruriens. Thanks Annie!

I can't help you with the name of the purple bean plant, though the colours are gorgeous.

The Crinum is lovely as is the dwarf Ixora. The blooms on both plants are very delicate.

I have an Oleander that is still outside in its pot and will soon come inside. It has pink flowers like this one, but unfortunately it didn't bloom this year. I am glad that I was able to see yours for my pink oleander view.

Your gardens may not be all that different from last month, but they are still pretty. I like the mimosa, a plant I've grown in a container in the summer time. Kids love to play with them.

Thanks for joining us again for GBBD.

It's always lovely to see what's in bloom around the world on GBBD. The flowers of the Hedychium are very pretty and so are those of the Crinum. The Touch-me-not looks amusing with those little balls. The leaves are very pretty.

That peach coloured Hibiscus is smashing, what a lovely colour!!!

Can't help you with the mystery bean but those flowers are gorgeous. Perhaps Nicole in Trinidad knows its name?

My hedychium is blooming now too, Green Thumb - we're both lucky to be able to grow such a fragrant, beautiful flower!

May I make a guess on the mystery bean? Do you think it might be something called Velvet bean or Mucuna? There's a photo of the flower raceme toward the bottom of the page at this Australian website ... apparently it's medicinal.

The Hedychium looks lush and lovely. The red hibiscus shot is so cool, and I love your Summer Poinsettia-that I’d like to get. Oh how the sensitive plant reminds of the many hours we played with the leaves and flowers as children. Don't know the mystery bean but can ask around for you.

I don't know what your purple bean is but it is quite stunning! Love your tropical look on bloom day in OCT!

I am always amazed by the flowers you can grow in such heat. They are all so exotic to me. The few names I am familiar with are house plants in our country. That makes each visit such a wonderful a treat. To see them growing in situ is a refreshing experience :)

The unknown bean is beautiful, but so are all your other blossoms. We are already being threatened by snow over here in Southern Germany. Greetings, Andrea

You're welcome, Green Thumb - but from me looking at my screen it was only possibility - confirmation had to come from you who sees it firsthand. The petal color is wonderful!

White ginger is so beautifully fragrant and are so fragile - I miss them a lot. Your tropical plants sure remind me of our time living in Hawaii. Thanks for sharing your photos.
